3 Types of People You Want Helping You at Christmas Parties

As the Chief Christmas Organiser, when asking for helpers for your Christmas event, it’s beneficial to understand that different tasks will be best suited to different types of people. When you delegate the right kind of job to the right type of person, they will most likely really enjoy completing the task, and it won’t even feel like an effort to them. More importantly, that person is more likely to follow through with their job and complete it so you won’t have to chase them up later!

Without wanting to put people in “boxes” I’ve identified 3 main types of people that are usually involved with Christmas parties and events. They are:

The Details People: These are the people who will make sure stuff gets done, and nothing will slip through the cracks. They are the ones who’ll dot the I’s and cross all the T’s. Know anyone like that?

The People People: These are the people who are going to look after everyone. They’ll welcome everyone, serve the drinks and keep the conversation going. These are the people who know everyone and can organise a group of people to do almost anything in a heartbeat. Anyone come to mind like that?

The Creative People: These are the best people to create the look, feel and mood of the event. Their job is best suited to making the place look good, creating the atmosphere and wrapping the pressies.

Tasks for the Details People

  • Cleaning the house
  • Creating lists of food, presents and people
  • Planning the day and what time things need to happen
  • Keep track of what time the food needs to go in the oven
  • Keep track of what time the food needs to come out of the oven
  • What time to put on the meat
  • What time to put on potatoes & vegetables
  • What time to bring out the meal
  • What time to heat up the pudding

Tasks for the People People

  • Sending out the invites
  • Welcoming people as they arrive
  • Making sure everyone is sorted with a drink and nibbles
  • Keeping the conversation going
  • Making sure everyone has a good time
  • Handing out the presents

 Tasks for the Creatives

  • Setting up the table and furniture
  • Deciding the menu
  • Decorating the house
  • Setting the table
  • Wrapping presents
  • Prepping the music playlists

As you can see from the different types of tasks, some people will be best suited to some jobs rather than others. As the chief Christmas organiser, your job will be much easier if you can work out which tasks to delegate to which people. And if you don’t know, you can always ask the helper – “What on this list appeals to you the most?” and go from there!

Happy Holidays!
